Celebrate and Support the Garden

Arlington Garden is supported through community donations and usage fees. Photography and microceremonies (or other small reserved events) help support the garden’s overall operations and maintenance. Please see click above to view available dates and times on the calendar, as well as  permit guidelines. We  recommend you obtain permits well ahead of time, especially for high-demand days and times, such as the golden hour!  For the wellbeing of the garden and to avoid undue stress on the habitat, we only accommodate 3 photo permits per hour  and 1 microceremony per day.

Photography at Arlington Garden

Arlington Garden is a beautiful setting for photos and capturing special memories, as well as observing wildlife and flora.

To ensure that the garden remains a beautiful place for all to share and enjoy, we ask everyone follow the Garden Etiquette and Photography Guidelines on this page.

Permits are required for commercial and non-commercial photography in the garden. Photographers, professional and amateur alike, with or without a permit, may only use their representations of the Garden for commercial purpose when approved by Arlington Garden.

What Type of Photography Requires a Permit?

A good guideline to follow is if you are coming to the garden for the primary intention of taking portraits to comemmorate special occasions or planned photographs for any use (such as product photography, etc.), you are required to hold a photo permit.

We require permits for photo sessions for weddings, engagements, elopements, family portraits, graduations, proms, quinceañeras, senior portraits, holiday cards, maternity or baby photos, or similar events, as well as fashion or product photography, and photos taken for portfolios. This applies even when the photographer is a friend, family member, or other non-professional and even when the camera used is not a “professional” camera. Costume changes and/or models are only allowed with a paid permit.

Every courtesy will be extended to those who have booked a photo session permit, as long as the photography does not impede public use and follows the guidelines listed on this page. Any and all pertinent state laws, county ordinances or department policies shall be fully observed. Given the public atmosphere of the garden, all photo session activities shall be deemed appropriate and free from obscene content.

GARDEN ETIQUETTE DURING PHOTO PERMITS, MICRO CEREMONIES

AND ANY TIME

We ask that you keep in mind the following guidelines while you are enjoying your time in the garden!  Arlington Garden reserves the right to prohibit any person or activity that is not in keeping with the spirit of our guidelines:

  • We are free and open to the public for general enjoyment every day from dawn to dusk.
  • Respect the privacy and peace of other users. Low voices are appreciated by other people, birds and wildlife in the garden.
  • Refrain from climbing on trees, furniture and other garden features.
  • Please do not move furniture or other garden accents.
  • Stay on the clearly marked paths. Do not step in planting beds or across rock barriers.
  • We welcome pets but they must be leashed and kept out of planting beds. Please pick up after your pet, and stay away from squirrels or other wildlife.
  • After dark,  we are closed and patrolled by San Marino Security.
  • The flowers and fruit are here for everyone to enjoy seeing. Please do not to take or pick any fruit or plant material, including Navel oranges in our grove. These are used to make our sweet orange marmalade  sold to support the Garden.
  • Informal groups of up to 12 individuals are welcome to gather in the garden for informal picnics, friend meet ups, casual book groups, etc, however, weddings, engagement proposals, memorials, classes, workshops, and similar formal events also require a reservation in all cases even if the expected number of attendees is fewer than 12.
  • Walk or park your bike when in the garden. Refrain from riding in the garden.
  • Children should be accompanied at all times. Arlington Garden is nestled in a vibrant neighborhood with lots of traffic on the east and south sides of the garden. For their safety, please make sure your children are within view.
  • Keep water elements clean and free of debris for wildlife and birds.
  • Use trash receptacles.  All trash left on site has to be cleaned up by our volunteers. If a trash can is full, look for another!  There are multiple in the garden. Or pack it in pack it out, especially large takeout boxes!
