This Saturday, 2/22 from 9a-12p join us in revitalizing the garden for our 20th Anniversary Year!

The last Saturday of every month is devoted to a volunteer project in the garden that revitalizes, redesigns, or rebuilds an area that has been affected by that *most* natural and terrible of processes — the passage of time. All volunteer projects are designed to make a large impact in the garden and teach principles of garden design, regenerative gardening, or information about native plants and animals!

This Saturday, we will start preparing the site of a new garden “room” to be finished this Winter and Spring. The room will be built around a large gathering table (12 ft in length) constructed by @angelcitylumber from the trunk of an old coast live oak that we lost to disease in 2023. This workshop will likely be the first of a multi-month project!

Saturday’s project: we will clear CA native roses from the site (they have infiltrated the area from their nearby planting bed), plant CA native plants, redesign a berm to increase water infiltration, and do some sheet mulching! This is a great learning opportunity, a great way to meet fellow (rad and radiant) plant or ecology folks, and a great way to get a little exercise! Plus you’ll be creating something beautiful.

We ask volunteers to please wear long sleeves and pants. We will provide N95 masks and nitrile gloves. Additional PPE such as goggles or P100 masks will also be available on site. It is going to be a lovely day for earth work!

We are sad to have to post this but 2 visitors to the garden on Sunday afternoon 2/9 between 1-2pm had their cars broken into and visible items stolen from the seats of their cars in what has always been our very safe neighborhood by Pasadena Ave and Arlington Dr!

It was reported to Pasadena Police who came and took a report, so they are aware.

If you happen to have been driving by or parked close to that area during that time frame with dash cam footage, please reach out.

A few wishes offered up by community on the wish trees over the last month in support of our Dena neighbors—people, wildlife, mountain and canyon habitats, backyard trees— and the many ways we have been affected by the Eaton Fire.

This Saturday, 2.8 9-12 join us to volunteer while learning more about the art of backyard citrus orcharding (growing fruit for non-commercial means) with fruit tree expert and garden educator capri kasai!

We will begin with a mini-lecture on seasonal care of citrus trees, including tree assessment, biology and physiology of citrus. Lecture will be followed by pruning of our orange trees where participants will gain hands-on experience on how to prune citrus using the Arlington Garden citrus grove as their classroom.

Join us to learn how to take care of backyard citrus and volunteer to help the Arlington Garden citrus trees become more fruitful than ever!

Volunteers are asked to wear masks and gloves. Additional PPE will be provided. If you have a pair of pruners that you like, please bring them with you!

Our friends at @livingearth.la will be at the garden this Sunday, February 9th at 12pm. 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦: 𝘈 𝘠𝘰𝘨𝘢 & 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 is a new monthly practice we are excited to welcome to the garden for the first time.

Guided by Altadena/Pasadena-raised yoga instructor Qur’an Shaheed @quranshaheed, the class will blend movement, breath, and live music outdoors to deepen the mind-body-nature connection. This immersive experience weaves together flowing asana, guided breathwork, and intuitive soundscapes, creating space for inner alignment and self-discovery. Rooted in both stillness and rhythm, each session invites you to tune in, release, and move in harmony with the present moment.

This month’s musical collaboration is held with communitarian and modular synthesist Jesse Justice @jesse__justice , a dear friend of much of LA’s arts communities and a longtime musical partner of Qur’an Shaheed.

Participation is optional, and if you just want to lay underneath the trees and listen that’s absolutely encouraged.

To continue supporting our friends affected by the Eaton Fire, 100% of funds from purchases of Zapatista Coffee and limited edition art prints, as well as any proceeds of the session beyond artist payment, will be shared by @livingearth.la with Qur’an’s family.
